Apple recently launched its new and improved Apple Watch 7 in the tech market and it has been getting quite a lot attention since then. Apple unveiled the new watch at the California Streaming Event held on Sept 14. While the wearable isn’t coming until later in 2021, we finally know what’s coming – and it looks like a bunch of incremental improvements. Here’s everything you need to know about the Apple Watch 7 be it the price, features, design, release date and more.
The Apple Watch 7 comes in a refined look that retains the rounded edges (flat edges were expected) but with thinner bezels for 20% more screen area than the Apple Watch 6. Apple introduced two new sizes – 41mm and 45mm therefore ditching the earlier 40 and 44 mm sizes but it’s not as drastic of a redesign as we were expecting. Apple says the display was completely re‑engineered reducing the borders by 40%, which allowed for nearly 20% more screen area than Series 6. With Always On Display and a new 70% brighter display the watch looks and performs better.
The watch also includes the same IP6X dust resistance, the same WR50 water resistance as prior models. Apple claims the watch is more durable than ever and has ‘over 50 percent thicker’ front glass than that on the Apple Watch 6.
Apple went out of its way to say the new watch has the same 18-hour battery life as its predecessor, suggesting it likely has the same 304mAh battery as in the Apple Watch 6 but the new watch charges faster than the predecessor. According to Apple, the Series 7 charges 33% faster thanks to a new USB-C cord. The watch goes from 0% to 80% in 45 minutes. An 8-minute charge meanwhile can supposedly provide 8 hours of sleep tracking.
Talking about the health features, Apple hasn’t really made a change in the health monitoring features and sensors. But the smartwatch still has an impressive array of health monitoring features to track ECG, blood oxygen levels, heart rate, and plenty of other metrics.
Software: Apple watchOS 8
The Apple Watch 7 doesn’t introduce as many new features as we might’ve hoped, but luckily watchOS 8 is on the way with several software upgrades. WatchOS 8 introduces support for multiple timers, digital keys, a new Mindfulness app and Pilates workout types, the ability to track respiratory rate while you sleep, and a redesigned Photos app. Taking advantage of the expanded screen, the Series 7 gets a full keyboard for typing messages which makes communicating even better with the new apple watch.
Should you consider The Apple Watch 7?
Overall, the Apple Watch Series 7 is a minor upgrade over the Apple Watch Series 6, offering larger displays and casing sizes, new color options, improved durability, the S7 chip, and faster charging. These features are mostly iterative improvements rather than major reasons to upgrade, and the Series 7 does not add any new functionality.
Getting the latest device may be a more important consideration for those who upgrade their Apple Watch infrequently and the Series 7 clearly offers bigger upgrades to those coming from older devices. For those who have an Apple Watch Series 5 or older, or those who are new to Apple Watch entirely, the Apple Watch Series 7 is a good option with plenty of new features to justify upgrading.
You shouldn’t update from the S6 to the S7. Not only the SoC is the same, and they will probably lose support at the same time (giving the S7 one year less of “lifespan”) but the next year there will be a much more noticeable upgrade, with new and better SoC, and possibly the new design that Apple delayed at the last moment this year.
Apple Watch 7 release date, price and pre-orders
The Apple Watch 7 starts at $399/41,900 rupees. Although Apple hasn’t announced official pricing for every model, we expect a larger model to start at $429. For Cellular support, we’re guessing you’ll have to spend $499 for the smaller size or $529 for the larger size. It’ll be offered in five new aluminum finishes: midnight (black), starlight (gray), green, blue, and (PRODUCT)RED. There are also three new Nike Sport Loop colors, as well as new Apple Watch Hermès bands.
Pre-orders for Apple Watch 7 will start on October 8, with the smartwatch delivering on October 15. Get it on Apple Store online along with exclusive Apple retail partners. It’s pre-order time this Friday and we still don’t have any ordering information on the Apple Store. This was all about the Apple Watch 7 Price, Features, design, release date and more.
