Blackberry – was a brand of smartphones, tablets, and services originally designed and marketed by Canadian company BlackBerry Limited. The brand switched off its services for good this week and it would be easy to assume that BlackBerry – as a phone brand – is dead. What We Know?
You might not know but a company named OnwardMobility picked up license to produce Blackberry phones in 2020. And according to a recent blog by OnwardMobility, they say “Contrary to popular belief, we are not dead.”
They further said “While we encountered various delays that prevented us from shipping in 2021, we will be providing more regular updates starting this month that will clarify and answer many of your questions about the ultra-secure 5G enterprise smartphone (still with a keyboard!) we’re bringing to market.” The company also said that it couldn’t launch the new 5G Blackberry smartphone last year as “2021 was truly a challenging year to launch a new phone.” The company proclaimed that it is “not dead.”
With this Blackberry said applications for BlackBerry Link, BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and BlackBerry Blend would continue to have limited functionality. There are no sneak peaks or images of the phone as of now. Reports suggest OnwardMobility may use a mid-range Qualcomm chipset for its smartphone. It is almost certain that they’ll launch an android powered smartphone , which will have 5G capabilities.
